It was a rainy evening in Quebec, there was a big old barn in the middle of a field filled to the brim with laughter and song and it was there where I laid my eyes upon yours for the first time. You were from Switzerland, learning English in Quebec? We didn’t have many words in common, but your smile would speak to me for years to come. I have since learned a little Swiss German, and you, fluent in English. Time brings learning, patience and ultimately a stronger Love between us. In no way could I write it has been easy peasy… Leaving my home country to start fresh in a new world of new customs, language, friends and family… No, it wasn’t easy nor is it all the time, but I have found my way, and the Love is real.
Over these years, I have written a few Love songs about the ups and downs of living together, humans, living out this wild life experience on planet Earth. Some of of these songs I still put in my set lists on occasion, others, long forgotten (I have to wonder why a song sticks, why one stays and one gets lost?) To be honest, I wasn’t sure I would write another Love song, doesn’t our world have enough already?? Ha!! Well, here is one more, and while I was writing it yesterday, I thought for the entire day (until he corrected me later in the evening) that is was August 21st. Not so! So, I get to celebrate a second full day of our First Meet.
As I have written, I am rummaging through my large collection of Voice Memos in my smartphone and I happened upon a version of today’s recording. I used only the first line of said recording and compiled the rest in a couple of hours. Mostly when I come up with a song idea, I sing gibberish within the newly discovered melody; in this case, there was that first line “Hold me close” and I rolled with it.
So, after a good day of learning this new song, and, strangely getting an entirely extra day added to the calendar (yay!) I will open Reaper and continue on with my “Voice Memo Challenge!”
Well! That took way longer than I had expected and my fingers are sore from playing the guitar part SO MANY TIMES! I had to take a couple “stretch” breaks to get my head out of it, I want this to be fun, right? Well, I persevered and here we are, one more new song recorded into Reaper. Here are a couple of clips, what do you think??
Introducing “Anyone But You”

Sounds awesome, beautiful song, good job recording. You look like you are having a lot of fun (and reward) in your studio!
Isn't it cool that recording can open up your creativity as there are so many possibilities and so many directions you can go. Harmonies you wouldn't initially think of can be found, etc. Looking forward to hearing more.
Do you have a name for your studio?
